Contest Rules

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. OPEN TO LEGAL RESIDENTS OF THE UNITED STATES, 18 YEARS OR OLDER AS OF DATE OF ENTRY.

Entries accepted from February 9, 2008 through March 31, 2008.

To enter, submit your original recipe via U.S. Postal Service using whole grain brown rice, Thai Jasmine rice, or Indian Basmati rice as an ingredient, yet does not have to be Mahatma®. Recipe entry must be original and not a copy or imitation.

Entries must: 1) be typed; and 2) In standard recipe format (see a recipe on this website for an example) [list of ingredients and measurements in order of use, directions, cooking times and number of servings].

MAIL-IN ENTRY: Just send us your full name, return mailing address, phone number (best contact number), email address, recipe category, and typed recipe to:

One entry per mailing address per recipe category. For the purposes of this contest, there are two categories: 1) Healthy [refer to our Well-Balanced Eating comments on this website for considerations of a "healthy" recipe] - using whole grain brown rice, and 2) Exotic - using either Thai Jasmine or Indian Basmati Rice.

Entries must be postmarked by March 31, 2008 when contest ends.

Winning recipes will be judged by a panel of judges based on: taste, appeal/appearance, originality/creativity of finished recipe. All decisions of judges are final.

Winners will be notified by mail or optional method(s), such as your phone or email specified on your mail-in entry.

By participating, entrants agree to be bound by the Rules. Riviana Foods Inc. (“Sponsor”) is not responsible for incomplete entries or any entries not received for any reason. Sponsor reserves the right to cancel, terminate or modify any contest not capable of completion as planned. All entries become the exclusive property of Sponsor and will not be acknowledged or returned. Entries constitute permission to edit, modify, publish and otherwise use the recipe in any way without compensation. Employees of Sponsor, parent company, affiliates, subsidiaries, agents, advertising and promotion agencies and the immediate families or persons residing in the same household of each are not eligible to participate. Void in Puerto Rico, outside the U.S., and where prohibited. Subject to applicable federal and state laws and regulations.

One (1) First Place "Brown Rice" Healthy recipe category winner will receive a Gourmet Food Basket including an electric rice cooker, gift certificate, appetizer servingware, and cookbooks (Approximate Retail Value: $300).

One (1) First Place "Basmati or Jasmine Rice" Exotic recipe category winner will receive a Gourmet Food Basket including an electric rice cooker, gift certificate, appetizer servingware, and cookbooks (Approximate Retail Value: $300).

Ten (10) Runners-up will receive the 'World of Rice' Cookbook, gift certificate, and FREE Mahatma Rice product coupons (Approximate Retail Value: $50 each).

Winners may be required to sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility/Liability and Publicity Release, which must be returned within 7 days of notification or an alternate winner may be chosen. Except where prohibited, acceptance of prize offered constitutes consent that Sponsor may use winner’s name and likeness for advertising and publicity purposes without further compensation.

By entering, participants release Sponsor, its parent company, subsidiaries, affiliates and respective directors, officers, employees and agents from any and all liability for any injuries, losses or damages of any kind caused by any prize or resulting from acceptance, possession or use/misuse of any prize. In the event of noncompliance with any requirements, or if prize or prize notification is returned or is otherwise undeliverable, prize may be forfeited and awarded to an alternate winner. Income and other taxes on prize, if any, are the sole responsibility of the winner. No prize transfer or cash substitutes allowed, except at Sponsors’ sole discretion, in which case a prize of equal value may be substituted.
